Personality:
When he was younger and was found by Oscar, Gilbert was someone who started off shy and nervous, always keeping quiet and to himself. Gilbert's views of a servant seem to go to the point of 'The servant needs to protect the master.' This view is a big part of his personality, because of that he will do anything to make sure Oz is safe in anyway he can. Though his over protectiveness of his master was often mocked by Oz himself. The boy took great joy in bullying Gilbert, namely fixating on his fear of cats. No one is really sure why cats scare Gil so much, but it didn't stop Oz from putting his sister's cats on his head or using them to blackmail Gilbert into doing things.
After Oz was sent to the Abyss, Gilbert's personality changed. He becomes even more hard working and dedicated his life to getting his family's chain, Raven, so he could free Oz from the Abyss. Raven was a very proud chain that wanted a strong willed contractor, so Gilbert spent years developing the determination and will strong enough to impress it. Still, he continues to have his moments of failure much like he did as a child servant. Yes, even with all the hard work, Gil is easily manipulated into doing things by people he considers friends. Oz of course being the clearest example. He'd do anything for the boy no matter how degrading (though he'll still complain a whole lot). Break is another one that can easily take advantage of him. Whether he's using him for work purposes or just getting him to make a snack. Gilbert rarely turns down a request from the man. Hell, even Alice on occasion is able to get things out of him. All of which have been food related, like getting him to buy her cooked meat even though Gilbert knows buying it uncooked and cooking it yourself is cheaper.
Another trait he's kept from childhood is his tendency to idolize people. Usually for skills that usually he doesn’t have, or how quickly that person can do something, but mostly for how they treat other people. Even with his bullying, Oz had always been a very kind master and protected Gilbert, much like his first master. He also idolized Oscar (Oz's uncle) for his kindness and started to imitate the man by taking up the unhealthy habit of smoking just to be more like him. A habit he has been desperately trying to quit ever since, but even with a will strong enough to impress Raven... he still lacks the willpower to break this habit. Even after trying to eight times.
Gilbert also has a fear of cats. It's is a big part of who he is, although it has yet to be explained as to why he has this fear it can often get him into trouble. As a child Oz and other servants would use cats to frighten Gilbert into doing things and as an adult... they do the same. Usually when he sees a cat he'll scream then start to tremble and back away from it. But when they creature touches him? All is lost. He'll freak out and faint or just plain freeze up, even in the middle of a battle. As seem when they stumble into Cheshire's layer. Even thought Cheshire was only partly feline looking (Cat ears and a tail) Gilbert still froze up and became useless during the battle.
It's instances like this that he feels the worse and his circle of friends don't help matters much. They'll often call him useless or a crybaby and though they mean it in a teasing way, it has been shown to deeply effect Gilbert. He's very insecure about not being needed by his master anymore, and will take it very hard when Oz is angry with him. He'll either sulk in a corner, act moody or outright cry until he is forgiven. But his insecurities are mostly brought to light when it comes to Oz's closeness with his chain (Alice). Though she'll never have the same place Oz's life as Gilbert, he is a bit threatened by how attached his master has gotten to her and her equal attachment to him. He worries she'll replace him in some manor and Oz will leave him behind.
The two will often argue over ownership of Oz but even with his dislike of her and insecurities, when he has the choice of saving her or letting her die, he always chooses to save her. This shows how gentle and kind hearted Gilbert really is, despite all the teasing from his friends he still remains loyal to the very end.
Gilbert for the most part beyond this had issues when it came to his memories. Not knowing if it was something that he wanted to remember or not or what it could mean when he does, which does come to pass. Gilbert's loyalty is put to the test the moment he remembers. The moment he figures out who his true master was and upon being commanded to shoot Oz he does hurting the one person he was told he would hurt one day. This broke him. As Vincent says 'Gilbert in kind, Gilbert is weak, so I knew he would break down like this.'
But this was the moment where Gilbert finally was able to make a choice and have the courage to get rid of the thing that bound him to Glen. His left arm. He was finally able to stop being weak, to not listen to what others say and was able to make his own choice, even if it meant the cost of his arm. He also is able to instead of standing to protect Oz able to stand by his side and see Oz not just as his master but a friend.
Overall. Gilbert is kind, Gilbert is loyal, Gilbert is kinda an idiot and easily teased, but the man is someone who just wants to protect those who he cares about, make sure they are okay... Even if cats make him unable to do absolutely anything.

Raven is Gilbert's chain that he worked hard to be able to contract, to help his master get out of the Abyss. The contract of the chain he keeps on his person. What he used to seal the contract was a mirror, which he used to soak in the blood of the chain he was making a contract with.
Raven is a giant bird or crow like bird that is bound by chains. It is considered one of the most powerful chains in canon. It had taken Gilbert so many years and three attempts to be able to make a contract with it. Raven also seems to be used on Gilbert's left arm which is why he wears gloves most of the time and only takes them off when he has to use the chain's power.
The abilties Raven comes with are as follows:
Illusion: It does exactly what it says on the tin, Raven is able to become one with the darkness and only show one yellow eye, it can then use create copies of this eye to intimidate the person it is targeting. Since Raven is such a large bird it can be quite intimidating even without this ability in the first place. This is something that would be rarely used, or is rarely used except when Raven was trying to find a contractor in the first place.
Teleportation: Raven is able to teleport a person or more than one person from one place to another. In Raven's case it is able to take people from this world to another place called the Abyss and even back again, but this puts a big strain on the user that uses it at the time. Also after it is used black feathers are left behind.
Sealing Powers: This ability is used to be able to seal ones powers if they overbear a user, he can later use the power to help unseal it for a moment if it's needed and then able to seal it again when needed. This one canon wise is the one he uses most often by taking off his left glove and lightly placing his hand on someone head to be able to use it.
Blue Flames: Lastly an ability that has only been used once ever against the Baskervilles, this as the title suggests uses a blue flame to harm someone, possibly a chain or in the one time it was used against a Baskerville and this actually hurts them.
Healing: Due to being a Baskerville it comes with at least one perk and that is the ability to heal pretty much most injuries. The only things they can't is if it's an attack by a chain itself for example Break's Mad Hatter had the ability to kill them.

Considering all that happened Gilbert had a lot he needed to adapt to. The most important one was actually trying to cook with only one arm which... was going to take some getting use to. He stood in the kitchen looking over at every ingredient that he needed before looking at the bowel in front of him.
How was this going to work? It seems simple, pick up the stuff and put it into the bowel and then try to stir it... somehow...without a hand to hold the bowel.
Okay he really didn't think this fully over before giving it a try, but now he had everything out he had to try. "Alright so what is first...Flour by the looks of it." he muttered as he looked over to the book. Flour, that was pretty simple. He moved his right hand to pick it up before looking over at the cup and carefully started to pour it in, checking the measurements as he did.
First step done and that was easy enough and with the flour now down he put it into the bowel. "How am I going to be able to stir this. I can't hold the bowel and do it at the same time." he said frustrated at that fact before giving a small sigh.
"I need to at least try." Which he set about doing after he had managed to put the other ingredients in. As soon as that was done he picked up the wooden spoon "Now... I guess I can give this a try." And all he could think of was he gently try and push the bowel against the back wall, but as he tried slowly, the bowel instead soon found itself on the floor in now a pile of ruined ingredients and a broken bowel.
Sinking to the floor, he honestly felt a tiny bit defeated. How long before he could adapt to this?

I don't feel exactly happy about it if that is what you mean. As much as things are finally settling down back home, I still have things to do.
What are you going to miss most about the world you call home?
My brother, Ada, Sharon... There are a few people that I would miss. Including those who are no longer with us. But I can wait for as long as I need to.
Can you tell us anything about the world you came from?
I might not be able to tell you certain aspects, but the world I came from was very nearly destroyed, but that was at least thankfully dealt with.
What do you think about the idea of having a Digimon partner?
If it's anything like a chain then it would be fine, so long as I prove myself I assume. Though I don't know a lot about them either so I guess getting to know them will be something. I..I just hope there are no cats or anything or that they are a cat. You don't have digimon that are cat's, right?
A dangerous Digimon is after you! What do you do?!

Feb. 9th, 2011 09:47 pm[Gilbert appears to be standing by a stove, silently cooking, eyes focused on the task at hand. Hair is clearly tied and apron is being worn as he continued to cook something on the stove. Moving away from the stove he makes his way to the chalkboard, picking it up.]
Oz and stupid rabbit, if you are getting hungry, I've made you dinner and something for after.
[Moving away once again from the chalkboard, he walks back over to the stove switching off as well as the oven as he opens the oven door slightly, taking a peek before making sure he is wearing gloves that won't burn his hands as he takes a tray out of the oven.
He places the tray down as he soon went and got a couple of plates and started to serve up before going back over to the chalkboard and this time actually making sure the video feed stopped working.]
